Excel ROUND function — round a number

ROUND rounds a number to the number of decimals you choose. Formatting only changes how it looks; ROUND changes the value itself — which matters for prices and VAT.

In other languages: YUVARLA (Türkçe), ОКРУГЛ (Русский)

Syntax

ROUND(number, num_digits)

Arguments

number
The number or cell to round.
num_digits
Digits: 2 → to 0.01, 0 → whole number, −2 → to hundreds.

Example

Round 12.3456 to two decimals.

A
1Number
212.3456
31234

Type the formula in B2

The formula in your Excel

  • English Excel=ROUND(A2,2)
  • Türkçe Excel=YUVARLA(A2;2)
  • Русский Excel=ОКРУГЛ(A2;2)

=ROUND(A2,2) → 12.35. =ROUND(A3,-2) turns 1234 into 1200.

Useful tips

  • Always up: ROUNDUP; always down: ROUNDDOWN.
  • Round the total, not every row, to avoid cent differences.

Common errors

  • Totals do not add up — numbers look rounded on screen but are not; use ROUND.
