Excel NETWORKDAYS function — count working days

NETWORKDAYS counts the working days between two dates, leaving out Saturdays and Sundays and, if you like, holidays. Useful for payroll, project length and delays.

Syntax

NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date, [holidays])

Arguments

start_date
The start date.
end_date
The end date (included).
holidays
Optional: a list of holiday dates (a range).

Useful tips

  • Put holidays in their own column and pass them as the third argument: =NETWORKDAYS(A2,B2,E2:E10).
  • For other weekend days use NETWORKDAYS.INTL.

Common errors

  • #VALUE! — a date was typed as text; format the cell as a date or build it with the DATE function.
