Excel IFERROR function — your message instead of an error

IFERROR shows the value you choose when a formula returns an error (#N/A, #DIV/0! and so on), so reports stay tidy.

In other languages: EĞERHATA (Türkçe), ЕСЛИОШИБКА (Русский); DÜŞEYARA (Türkçe), ВПР (Русский)

Syntax

IFERROR(value, value_if_error)

Arguments

value
The formula or value to check.
value_if_error
What to show on an error: text, 0 or empty ("").

Example

Show "Not found" instead of #N/A when a code is missing.

Useful tips

  • IFNA catches only "not found" and does not hide other errors.
  • Hide division by zero: =IFERROR(A2/B2,0).

Common errors

  • IFERROR hides every error — make sure the formula works first, then wrap it.
